The Leighton Buzzard based model flying club, 'The Buzzard Flying Club' was formed in 1976. We have been at our current field near Slapton for over 30 years.We are a small club with around 50 members currently. We are affiliated to the BMFA (club no 347).
We endeavour to be a friendly club and like to welcome new members. We do like to have fun and enjoy both flying and the related banter. We will offer advice on safe modelling practices and flying when needed.
If it flies, you may well see it at the club. Primary focus being fixed wing, both power and electric (sport and scale). We also fly helicopters, drones, EDF, control line and electric gliders. The club has has seen membership grow with new pilots learning to fly with foam based aircraft with the help of our club instructors.
We like to help members when needed and our Club instructors can help you learn. This year, we have seen a seen a few members successfully pass the BMFA 'A' and 'B' competence tests. A year or two ago, the club appeared on BBC Countryfile, enabling the BMFA to launch their 'find a model aircraft & drone trial flight' initiative.
A number of members are well known faces at trade shows and model flying events. We also have the occasional RC magazine contributor. We have a huge depth of experience to share.
We hold a few events across the year, possibly a BBQ or meeting at a nearby village hall, with the aim of bringing the club together. We operate a closed facebook site which is used to keep all members informed and to brief each other regarding trips to the field, as well as posting photos and advice.
The field has no time related flying restrictions. Noise levels must adhere to BMFA recommendations. We do fly in a cow pasture where we protect the strip with an electric fence from our 4 legged friends.
In order to minimise club costs we do not provide a full website.
